A beautiful glass conservatory at the rear of Old Customs House, connecting the main building to the Courtyard. This contemporary architectural addition brings the outdoors within, flooding it with natural light while staying protected from the elements. At night, see the city lights twinkle through the transparent roof. Can accommodate long-table dinners running the entire length of the Atrium, or layout more intimate round tables throughout. Cocktail parties and wedding ceremonies are also perfectly suited. The wide hallway connecting the Atrium to the rest of the museum is home to changing feature exhibitions, usually hanging art that tells a story, creating another interesting aspect that adds to your event’s unique setting.

Sliding double doors open from the glass-walled Atrium into the sun-drenched Courtyard, a tranquil haven in the middle of the energetic city. The Courtyard can be decorated or personalised for your occasion with the option to set up a marquee, for both shade and a gorgeous atmosphere. The Courtyard incorporates the Tribute Garden, inviting curious guests to take a stroll through the moving public artwork and acknowledge the thousands of people who have journeyed to make Victoria home.

The Grand Foyer is on the first floor and can be accessed by an elegant, ornate staircase that, creates a wonderful sense of anticipation on arrival. The black and white checkerboard marble floors – carefully re-instated to its original design – and high, detailed ceilings give a sense of old-world sophistication that perfectly suits intimate dinners and cocktail gatherings. Oversized windows offer abundant natural light and views across the Yarra. At night, the skyline impresses with the colourful lights of dynamic Southbank. The opportunity for something different continues inside, too, with the option of having our surrounding exhibition spaces open for your guests to peruse.

The Italianate revival style of Victorian-era architecture – think tall Ionic columns, a very high ceiling and extensive hand-laid, detailed tiling – creates an opulent atmosphere in this appropriately named space. The Long Room is inspiring in its size, ideal for gala dinners and cocktail events. Originally a thriving hub of trade activity, it has remained an important commercial location for over one hundred years. As with events held in the Grand Foyer, adjoining galleries can be kept open for discovery.
